Bonanza The first color western told the tale of the Cartwrights which were a fictional family living in Virginia City Nevada, an actual mining town during the 1890s. The character portrayed was the younger Cartwright son, whose mom (Felicia on the show's pilot but then changed later to Marie) widowed and mother whose child had died of the fever (episode Marie My Love) was born of French Creole descent.
